When Finnish rally driver Juha Kankkunen hit 205.48 mph on a frozen Baltic Sea two weeks ago, British luxury car maker Bentley was rightly proud of the feat. After all, Kankkunen had chosen a Bentley Supersports convertible as his weapon of choice for the challenge. Now, to celebrate the historic feat, Bentley is releasing a limited series of 100 Supersports convertibles dubbed 'Ice Speed Record' editions.
"Juha Kankkunens's drive was a remarkable achievement and worthy of a very special car," Wolfgang Duerheimer, Bentley Chairman and CEO said in a statement. "The Continental Supersports 'Ice Speed Record' is a true driver's car that captures that unique Bentley spirit."

Unique to the Ice Speed Record cars are three exterior color options -- Beluga, Quartizite, or Arctica White -- each matched to a Dark Grey Metallic soft top. The 20-inch wheels standard to the Supersports are finished with a dark tint on the Ice Speed Record versions, while the interior features red high-gloss carbon fiber dash trim, red seat and door piping, and red accents on the Breitling dashboard clock.

Mechanically, the Bentley Supersports Ice Speed Record convertible doesn't differentiate much from the already-formidable standard Supersports. With a 631-horsepower, 590 pound-foot, twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 engine, a sports exhaust system, all-wheel drive, and a six-speed automatic transmission, the Supersports hits 60 mph from a standstill in 3.8 seconds and hits 100 mph in just 9.5 seconds. Carbon ceramic brake discs and eight-piston front calipers haul the Supersports down from high speed with authority, benefiting also from the grip of 275/35/ZR20 Pirelli ultra-high performance tires.
If you want a Bentley Supersports Ice Speed Record convertible, you'd better act fast. With just the 100 cars being produced, they're likely to get snapped up quick. The price? Not yet determined, but considering the standard Supersports starts at $286,695, you can bet it won't be cheap.
